SUMMARY:SIGCHI EC June Meeting
DESCRIPTION:For this ~45-minute meeting\, the agenda is as follows: \nLuigi De Russis\, Adjunct Chair for Community Support\, will present a proposal for “badges” for events supported by the SIGCHI Development Fund. Our goal with these badges is two-fold: (a) to provide a set of guidelines that events can consider in planning their events and making them accessible\, sustainable\, globally inclusive\, etc.; and (b) then for events to signal that these guidelines have been adopted for their target audiences. (10 mins) \nMatt Jones\, Vice-President for Chapters\, will go over the vision of the Chapters Committee that was set up earlier this year. (10 mins) \nNic Bidwell\, Adjunct Chair for Sustainability\, will lead a conversation on Conferences and the Environment. The SIGCHI Sustainability Committee plans to consider different ways to offset the environmental impact of our conferences. To this end\, we will consider the options of the ACM Carbon Offset Program and local/global alternatives for different ecological impacts\, and funding strategies to support these. (10 mins) \nNeha Kumar\, President\, will lead a short discussion about the ACM SIGCHI TechNews newsletter. This is a member benefit for SIGCHI Members—should we keep it\, make changes to it\, discard it altogether? (5 mins) \nPejman Mirza-Babaei\, Cale Passmore\, Luigi De Russis\, and Adriana Vivacqua will quickly go over the current calls we have going for volunteering on the Publications\, Equity\, Development Fund\, Futuring Committees\, and the Hybrid Working Group. (5 mins) \nWe will end with Q&A\, per usual. (5 mins) \n*** \nThe EC conducts public meetings on a monthly basis. These take place virtually on Zoom. We welcome participation from members\, within time constraints. We will be providing a video recording and meeting notes for all meetings on our website. \nPlease let us know (via email: sigchi-access@acm.org) if you have specific accessibility requests\, and our Accessibility Committee will do their best to accommodate them. We also aim to provide SLI at all meetings.

SUMMARY:CHI '22 Town Hall (B)
DESCRIPTION:Dear SIGCHI\, \nIf you filled out the CHI 2022 executive team’s recent survey\, you know that they are thinking deep and hard about whether or not the conference should have an in-person component. They are committed to offering a fulfilling return to in-person conferencing\, while prioritizing health and safety\, equity\, and financial responsibility\, and doing so amid the ongoing COVID and climate crises is no easy task. \nThere are many unknowns. For example\, it is unclear at present what restrictions the ACM can mandate at in-person events (e.g.\, vaccines\, masks). We do not know who all\, from our global community\, will be in a position to attend. We also cannot be certain how the financial implications will change as we get closer to the conference dates. CHI-related decisions have consequences for how our community develops\, in the short and long term\, and also how we support SIGCHI activities taking place through the year and across the globe. \nTo discuss all of the above\, and move us towards a shared understanding around this complex decision-making\, the SIGCHI EC and the CHI ’22 team would like to host a town hall (in two sessions\, to accommodate various time zones) for members of our community\, including organizers\, potential attendees\, and future attendees. \nJoin us on Friday October 15 at 3-4pm UTC or Tuesday October 19 at 10-11am UTC. We apologize for the short notice\, but timing is unfortunately tight at this moment. For those unable to attend\, the sessions will be captioned and shared online. You can also use this sli.do link to participate anonymously. \nThe CHI 2022 team will also be sharing their analysis of the survey results shortly\, and we’ll forward along a link to their blog when this is online. \nRegards\,\nSIGCHI EC \n\n\n\nOctober 19\, 10-11am UTC (Zoom)\nhttps://acm-org.zoom.us/j/96141990839?pwd=OXFDYW9jd2UvbVVLTFNFU2h5YWFxUT09\n\n\nPlease let us know if you have any accessibility requests (e.g.\, CART\, SLI)\, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

SUMMARY:Equity Talks: Race & SIGCHI
DESCRIPTION:Equity Talk #10: Race & SIGCHI will be held Tuesday\, August 10\, at 5pm UTC (in your time zone). You can participate on Discord\, pose questions on Sli.do before/during\, or join us on Zoom. Overall\, we are interested in learning: \n\nWhat are the pressing problems or issues that people see as it relates to race and SIGCHI?\nWhat are recommendations for policy changes as it relates to race and SIGCHI?\n\nWe will review and curate feedback prior to and during the session in relation to policy changes for the SIGCHI EC that recognize and address issues of  race and ethnicity in SIGCHI. \nWe invite individuals who have been affected by race and ethnicity within the broader HCI community\, those with expertise on race and ethnicity\, individuals who have a commitment to diversity as it relates to race and ethnicity\, and members of the community who are conducting research in the area of race and ethnicity to attend this event. \nPost this conversation we will share a summary of the recorded session with the broader community in a medium post. Our hope is to offer a space for the SIGCHI community to continue the discussion on actions leading to important changes regarding this topic. \nWe look forward to your participation. For individuals new to the SIGCHI Equity talk series\, previous talks have been linked on our Medium publication and YouTube channel. \nSincerely\,\nRace & SIGCHI moderating team”
